Biofeedback

If you want to reduce stress, balance emotions and increase attention try our Strength and Resilience tools.  The focus is on teaching emotional and physiological self-regulation skills with biofeedback including diaphragmatic breathing, heart rate variability and skin temperature. Old Market Neurotherapy offers techniques to use in daily life to reduce the effects of stress and bring your emotional/physiological self-regulation abilities into balance.

Biofeedback includes:

  • Breathing: Respiratory biofeedback to monitor your breathing patterns and respiration rate
  • Heart rate: Finger or earlobe sensors to measure your heart rate and heart rate variability
  • Muscle: Sensors placed over your skeletal muscles to monitor the electrical activity that causes muscle contraction
  • Sweat glands: Sensors attached around your fingers or on your palm to measure the activity of your sweat glands and the amount of perspiration on your skin, alerting you to anxiety
  • Temperature: Sensors attached to your fingers to measure your blood flow to your skin

Biofeedback can help you to gain an understanding and awareness about your ability to directly impact your physical state with your thoughts alone.  The feedback helps you to be able to focus on the subtle changes such as breath, focus, and relaxation of certain parameters to help you achieve specific results. Old Market Neurotherapy offers:

  • HeartMath Stress Management System provides immediate feedback of emotions when reflected in the beat-to-beat changes in the heart rhythms, also called Heart Rate Variability (HRV). Heart rate variability is a non-invasive biofeedback tool to measure nervous system patterns. Using the Quick Coherence technique and portable emWave technology you can learn to think more clearly maintain emotional balance and reduce stress effects on the body. www.heartmath.com
  • Alpha Stim SCS Stress Control System helps to manage anxiety, depression and insomnia by encouraging the mind to relax and focus attention on the task at hand.  www.alpha-stim.com
  • Journey to the Wild Divine is an interactive computer game that combines uses heart rate variability to track deep breathing techniques and skin conductance. Together these indicators give a holistic view of client’s stress levels, which must be controlled in order to master the game of self-regulation. Build stairways, open doors and fly magic carpets with your controlled breathing and calm attitude. https://wilddivine.com/
  • Muse is a compact electroencephalography (EEG) headband system based on focused attention training exercises using guiding sounds. Muse gives accurate, real-time feedback on what’s happening in your brain while you practice a natural relaxation response or mediation response. Meditation triggers a state of deep rest that changes the physiological and emotional responses to stress, such as your heartrate slows, muscles relax, breathing becomes slower and blood pressure decreases, thus, reducing symptoms associated with stress, depression, anxiety and lack of focus. Research has documented other benefits, like increased grey matter density, improved functioning of the prefrontal cortex, decreasing amygdala activity (associated with stress response), and increased resilience for a favorable and rewarding change to the brain. www.choosemuse.com
